The benchmark since 1971

Founded by Winfried Matter in Germany in the early 1970s and established in the Paris region for over 40 years, Matter has become the benchmark for motorsport vehicle safety over the years.

Building on the experience of Matter Germany, Matter began in the late 1980s to develop a range of weld-in roll cages for both professional and amateur customers. These roll cages, in addition to their strength, proved to be easy to install thanks to their sleeve-joint assembly system. Thanks to this technical and safety innovation, the enthusiastic drivers of the R5 GT Turbo Cup quickly became loyal customers and greatly contributed to the reputation of Matter’s weld-in roll cages!

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Matter began collaborating with numerous European manufacturers and prestigious teams: Peugeot Sport, Seat Sport, Williams Touring Car, Vauxhall, Toyota...
The production of Group A and Kit Cars (Peugeot, Renault, Citroën, Seat, VW) enabled the company to grow, move into larger, purpose-built facilities, and focus on bodyshell manufacturing.

By the late 1990s, Matter entered the new WRC era with Peugeot Sport and Seat Sport, and our chassis went on to claim new World Championship titles — following the Toyota Celicas of the 1990s and the Opel Manta/Ascona of the 1980s.

The 2000s were equally successful, with the production of S1600 cars for PSA, Renault, and Ford, followed by the 207 S2000 for Peugeot Sport.

By the late 2010s, the FIA transitioned to the R Groups, and once again manufacturers put their trust in us with the 208 T16, i20, and Polo.
These were also exceptional years with the 208 WRX for the World Rallycross Championship, followed by 8 of the 11 e.RX chassis for the e.WRX (Polo, 208, PWR).

2025 marks a major turning point for our company with a brand-new 3,000 m² facility dedicated to our expertise and optimized to push performance even further.
This new plant will feature over 500 m² dedicated to our 3D chassis jigs and over 350 m² for bodywork and panel fabrication — not to mention a dedicated welding & fabrication area for all the essential components for your cars (subframes, wishbones, footrests, …).

We manufacture for you:

  1. Roll cages, either fully installed or shipped pre-assembled depending on the car.
  2. Modified and reinforced bodyshells, from Group 4 to WRC, including Group B, Group A, Kit Cars, S1600, S2000, and Group R.
  3. Numerous fabricated components, both modern and historic, such as subframes, wishbones, footrests, and any other parts we originally produced back in the day.

We also specialize in the repair of Matter bodyshells, regardless of their age or condition.
This means we can fully restore a factory Group B Manta or repair a Rally2 Polo — exactly to your requirements.

Around thirty highly skilled technicians. TIG welders, fabricators, MIG welders, panel beaters, tube benders, engineers, press operators, production assistants…

Facilities

All bodywork, roll cage fabrication, and welding operations are centralized in Persan (95), in a 3,000 m² facility located 25 km from Paris and just 20 minutes from Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Over 1,200 FIA-homologated roll cages and more than 170 bodyshells produced each year, for all disciplines (Group N, Group A, Kit Cars, Super 1600, Group S2000, WRC, Historic...).
